The School of Journalism at IUPUI sponsors IUPUI Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America. Along with the Hoosier Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (the professional chapter serving Indiana), the School of Journalism supports students learning more about the profession and practice of public relations through programs, events and other activities.
The chapter was chartered in April 2006 with 20 members, and the Chapter currently supports more than 25 members.
The purpose of PRSSA is to cultivate a favorable and mutually advantageous relationship between students and professional public relations practitioners.
The student society aims to foster the following:- Understanding of current theories and procedures of the profession
- Appreciation of the highest ethical ideals and principles
- Awareness of an appropriate professional attitude
- Appreciation of Associate Membership in PRSA and eventually accredited membership
The Public Relations Student Society of America has more than 8,500 members in 270 chapters on college campuses across the country.
IUPUI PRSSA Mission
- To serve our members by enhancing their knowledge of public relations and providing access to professional development opportunities;
- To serve the public relations profession by helping to develop highly qualified, well-prepared professionals.
In the past three years, the chapter has conducted more than 15 professional development programs for member, sent student members to the PRSSA national conferences in Salt Lake City (2006) and Philadelphia (2007), and provides leadership experience.

Moreover, the PRSSA chapter also hosts Jaguar Communications, the student-run public relations agency. This student organization serves real-world clients with public relations planning and tactical activities to support organizational goals thus gaining additional real-world experience.
